This was probably the first issue to contain handwritten messages from the individual band members to the fans.
The cover photo was taken early 1974 and features the original 'Sha Na Na' type image . It was discarded on the way to the
BBC 'Top Of The Pops' studio when the band stopped off at Carnaby St and purchased the famous white 'Gatsby' caps and suits
that became their trademark. (Left to Right: Mick Clarke, John Richardson, Pete Arnesen, Tony Thorpe, Bill Hurd and Alan Williams.)
Pete left the band by the time this issue was published soon to be followed by Bill in early January.
The message from Tony Thorpe is rather delightful and I'm pleased to make that available again here.
John sent 2 messages !
Mick didn't get his message in on time. That was to be a regular occurrence over the next few years.
The most notable item in this issue was the announcement of the forthcoming release of 'Baby I Know' in the UK.
It was really a 'last roll of the dice' for the band. Fortunately the song made it on to the Radio 1 playlist and put the
band back into the Top 10 here and in Germany just in time to negotiate a new record deal with Polydor. Alan's new year resolution
came good.
